[Update] Fed Cup News

The latest is that Serena Williams is definitely not playing in the Fed Cup tie, U.S.A versus Russia scheduled for April 24-25 in Birmingham, AL. Captain Mary Joe Fernandez has been holding a spot for either of the two Williams sisters in case they are physically able to play. Both sisters initially declined to play in the semi-final tie due to leg injuries. Captain Fernandez has until April 23rd to finalize the team. It's been reported that Venus will follow up with Fernandez on Tuesday.

Venus' latest tweet: "I be training training training training training training, t-r-a-i-n-i-n-g!" So do you think she will play? I think she will *half confident smile*

Also, The ITF is saying that they are willing to allow ties to be delayed due to travel issues that some players are facing that are a result of the Iceland volcano eruption. Russian coach Shamil Tarpischev and Russian player Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova are stuck in Russia due to flight delays. The USTA said that if necessary matches could be delayed and moved to Monday and Tuesday.

I have tickets for this weekend and would be upset if the tie was moved because I won't be able to travel next week! Here's hoping the skies clear and that volcano stops erupting. However, I heard that the last time it erupted it was active for 2 years! *ugh*
